Affected Markets

The carrier will end operations at Bellingham International (BLI), Cozumel International (CZM), George Bush Intercontinental in Houston (IAH), and Syracuse Hancock International (SYR).

The changes affect approximately 400 employees, who will be offered positions at other Southwest locations. Customers with existing bookings will be re-accommodated on alternative flights or offered refunds.

Strategic Focus

“These decisions allow us to redeploy aircraft to higher-demand markets,” Southwest explained in a statement to employees.

The airline will maintain service at Houston Hobby (HOU), providing continued access to the Houston market. Syracuse passengers can connect through Baltimore or Chicago Midway.

Industry Trend

Southwest joins other carriers in pruning underperforming routes as the industry focuses on profitability over growth. American, Delta, and United have all trimmed regional service in recent quarters.

Affected routes will operate through March 15, 2026. Bookings beyond that date are being automatically canceled with refunds processed.
